Pool Rennovations

Using a pool for rehabilitation purposes is not always the first thought that comes to a person's mind when they are having pain. However, the aquatic environment can be a great way to promote early pain-free movement for individuals who have undergone certain surgeries. It is also ideal for individuals who have been experiencing back pain, difficulty walking, balancing or unsteadiness, tight or stiff joints, fibromyalgia, and arthritic pain.

We have recently made renovations to our therapeutic pool here at Progressive. Recent pool renovations include depth changes, a new pool liner, and updates to the aquatic treadmill. The pool continues to remain at a warm temperature of 92 degrees which is ideal for rehab purposes and especially beneficial for individuals with arthritic pain. It is the only pool in the area constructed specifically for therapeutic rehabilitation with a certified aquatic therapist on staff. “After 13 years of owning and operating the pool, and seeing the benefits our patients experience, we felt that these updates would promote a healing environment that our patients could continue to use on their road to recovery,” as stated by Bucky Whiteman, co-owner of the facility.

Using the pool as an approach to therapy allows individuals who are struggling with completing exercises out of the water to continue to relieve pain, restore movement, and rebuild their strength. “Our objective at Progressive is to create a safe environment for our patients to continue to work on improving their limitations and assist each individual to work toward their personal goals. The pool is a great tool that has produced effective results for many individuals,” says Kierstin Stevenson; PT, DPT, and Aquatics Director. Kierstin has also recently received her certification in Aquatic Physical Therapy Clinical Competency through the American Physical Therapy Association.

Each individual that attends the aquatic program will receive an extensive evaluation focusing on the area of need and a personalized plan of care. Participants will be taken through exercises under a therapist’s supervision to ensure each movement is being performed appropriately. All exercises are similar to land-based activities and do not require immersing of the head area or knowledge of swimming. The properties of the water provide a great rehabilitation option.

If you or a loved one have any questions regarding the aquatic physical therapy relating to the appropriateness of health conditions, contact us or talk to your physician about aquatic therapy.
